Marriage and relationships can be hard. Often a lack of communication can create a large gap that can become so big, it can be hard to know how to get back to each other.

As couples, we often go round and round in the same loops and argue about the same things, not knowing how to break the cycle.

An outside perspective is often needed to obtain an impartial opinion and technique to break this cycle.

With shared finances and often children, it can also be scary to know if it’s right to walk away, or try harder, or just simply accept things the way they are.

I believe one of the main reasons relationships break down is due to insecurity. We often feel our partner should provide certain things for us or meet certain needs and when they don’t, we feel let down. However, the truth is, no person in this world will truly be able to fulfil you or meet all the needs and insecurities that you have. Until you can really be in love with yourself fully, you cannot have a healthy relationship with another person.

With couples, I therefore feel it’s best to start with a few joint sessions, to see where the problems lie, open the lines of communication, and start making some changes. Then it’s a good idea for both parties involved to have individual sessions. They can then clear any issues they have within themselves, build up their own confidence and change how they react to certain situations. As the two people then grow individually, they can then return together to see if anything else needs to be resolved.

Clients who I see outside of this work, often tell me that as a side effect of us doing the work we’re doing, they find that they’re naturally arguing less with their spouse, as they feel so much calmer and don’t react in such a negative way when tension arises.

All long-term relationships need a bit of a ‘service’ now and then, to keep things healthy and positive, not just for them but for the whole family.

If you feel like this is an issue that is affecting you, then please give me a call or send me a message so we can have a chat.
